Da ich vor kurzem mit einem größeren Projekt fertig geworden bin, dachte ich, ich könnte das hier mal kurz vorstellen, auch wenn es etwas mehr als 101 Teile hat und aus dem 20. Jahrhundert ist. 
Da es sich um eine Kirche handelt, passt es auch irgendwie (wenn auch ungeplanterweise) zum Osterfest. Es ist ein Architecture-Modell der St.-Alexi-Gedächtniskirche in Leipzig, eine Russisch-Orthodoxe Kirche, die 1913 zusammen mit dem Völkerschlachtdenkmal erbaut worden ist um speziell der vielen Russischen Soldaten zu gedenken, die in der Leipziger Völkerschlacht kämpften und fielen. Der Maßstab ist etwa 1:150.
Since I've recently finished a bigger project, I thought I might share this here, although it has slightly more than 101 pieces and is from the 20th century. As it's a church, it somehow fits to Easter (even if that wasn't planned). It is an Architecture model of the Russian Memorial Church in Leipzig, a Russian Orthodox church that was built in 1913 together with the Monument to the Battle of the Nations to commemorate the many Russian soldiers who fought and died in the Battle of Leipzig. The scale is about 1:150.
Warum gerade dieses Gebäude? Ich baue generell meist Modelle von Gebäuden, an denen mein Arbeitgeber gearbeitet hat (unter anderem um sie im Büro parken zu können, wo mehr Platz ist als in meiner Wohnung 
) und auf der Suche nach einem neuen Projekt fiel mir das Gebäude irgendwann ins Auge, da es in weiß und gold zum einen mal etwas anderes war als immer nur Romanik und Gotik in Tan aber zum anderen auch nicht allzu kompliziert und groß ist (obwohl es doch insgesamt größer geworden ist, als ich erwartet hätte). Und da ich ohnehin schon das Völkerschlachtdenkmal und mit der Befreiungshalle ein weiteres Denkmal zu den Befreiungskriegen habe, passt es auch irgendwie gut dazu. Auch hatte ich die Möglichkeit, da schnell mal vorbei zu fahren (was sich auch gelohnt hat, sonst wäre mir das ein oder andere Detail auf Google entgangen).
Why this building? I generally tend to build models of buildings that my employer worked on (partly because this way I can put them in my office, where there's still more room than in my appartment ) and in search for a new project I set an eye upon this building as white and gold was on the one hand a bit of a change from Romanesque and Gothic churches in tan, but on the other hand it wasn't too big and complicated either (although it turned out bigger than I expected). And since I already have the Monument to the Battle of the Nations and with the Hall of Liberation another monument to the Napoleonic Wars, it fits quite well to them. I also had the possibility to easily drive by the building (which paid off, as I would otherwise have missed a few details from Google).
Die Idee mit geschichteten Nexo Knights Schilden für den Turm war eigentlich offensichtlich beim ersten Blick auf das Gebäude, aber es passte von den Proportionen und den Lücken her besser als ich gedacht hätte. Ich bin sehr froh, dass es genug Metallic Gold Curved Slopes für das Dach gab, auch wenn mich die Pearl Gold 2x2 Platten am unteren Rand etwas stören. Aber es ging vom Platz her auch nicht so viel anders zu lösen und ich bin froh, dass es überhaupt alles stabil zusammen hält. Die meisten Kopfschmerzen haben mir aber tatsächlich die 4 sandgrünen Eckdächer bereitet, da ich ursprünglich dachte, die werden schon recht simpel mit Slope Bricks zu lösen sein. Aber dann musste ich doch mehrere Stunden herumprobieren, um überhaupt eine zufriedenstellende Lösung zu finden. Im Originalgebäude befinden sich beidseitig der Turmfenster eigentlich auch Goldakzente und ich habe auch probiert, die einzubauen. Aber es war alles nur sehr klobig machbar und hätte vom Gesamtbild ziemlich abgelenkt.
The idea of layered Nexo Knights shields for the spire came rather naturally upon first sight of the building, but the proportions and gaps (or lack thereof) fitted better than I expected. I'm very glad that there were enough curved slopes in metallic gold for the roof, although the 2x2 plates in pearl gold on the bottom of the roof bother me a little. But I couldn't come up with another solution on the available space and I'm glad everything holds together stably anyway. Most headaches were actually caused by the 4 sand green corner roofs, since I originally thought they'd be rather simple to build from slope bricks. But then I had to try for hours to find a satisfying solution. The real building actually has gold accents next to the tower windows and I tried to put them in. But every solution I tried was just too clunky and distracted from the rest of the building.
Das restliche Modell ist eigentlich recht konventionell gebaut, ein bisschen SNOT hier und da aber nichts allzu außergewöhnliches. Für die Oberkirche habe ich bewusst versucht hohe 3er und 5er Bricks zu verwenden, da das half, die Vertikalstruktur des Realobjektes etwas hervorzuheben. Das Mosaik auf der Rückseite war erst eine simple 2x2-Fliese ähnlich des 1x1-Mosaiks auf der Vorderseite aber das war mir irgendwie etwas zu langweilig. Aber ich wollte auch nicht irgendeine komische bedruckte Fliese dafür verwenden und die Turntable-Basis mit dem gold darunter hilft, da etwas Detail rein zu bringen und dabei noch hinreichend abstrakt zu bleiben, auch wenn mir der Turntable in Sand oder Dark Blue lieber gewesen wäre. Das Fensterlayout auf den Apsiden ist auch nicht exakt, da dort eigentlich mehr Fenster sein müssten, aber es ist ein ausreichender Kompromiss, denke ich. Was mich etwas stört ist, dass ich die seitwärts-Giebel über dem EIngangsbereich nicht in das kleine Dach einbauen konnte, aber dies ist eben auch ein LEGO-Kompromiss und ich habe es zugegebenermaßen auch recht schnell verworfen, das irgendwie hinzufriemeln.
The rest of the model is built rather normally, a bit of SNOT here and there but nothing too much out of the ordinary. For the upper church I deliberately used 3- and 5-high bricks to highlight the verticality of the real building a little. The mosaic on the back was first using a simple 2x2 tile like the 1x1 mosaic on the front but I found that a little too boring. But I didn't want to use some weird printed tile either and the turntable base gives enough detail while staying sufficiently abstract, although I would have preferred it in sand or dark blue. The window layout on the apses isn't entirely accurate either as there would have to be more windows, but it's a sufficient compromise, I think. What bothers me a little is the missing sideway gables on the little roof over the front entrance, but that's one of these LEGO compromises too and I admittedly gave up rather early to fiddle them in somehow.
Da es im Grunde eine einfache hohle Box ist, bot sich eine Beleuchtung an und mit 4 LightMyBricks-LEDs (2 auf unterster Ebene und jeweils eine für die Haupthalle und die Kuppel) war das ganze Gebäude beleuchtet. Die Beleuchtung der Winterkirche ist vor allem unter dem Laubengang schon recht dunkel, aber es geht schon. Mit Trans-Clear Fenstern wäre es vielleicht heller, aber die Trans-Black Fenster passen im unbeleuchteten Zustand einfach besser und die Beleuchtung ist eh mehr 3-Sekunden-Gimmick als alles andere. Ich hatte diesmal zwar keinen Platz um direkt eine Batteriebox zu verbauen, aber das Kabel lässt sich problemlos von innen nach außen verlegen und so bleibt die Wahl der Stromquelle offen (tatsächlich werde ich vielleicht meine bisherigen Batteriebox-Modelle auch irgendwann auf externe Anschlüsse umstellen).
As it's basically a simple hollow box, putting in some lighting was an obvious choice and with 4 LightMyBricks LEDs (2 on the lowest floor and 1 for the main hall and dome each) the whole thing was lit. The lighting of the winter church under the overhang is quite dark, but it's okay. With trans-clear windows it might be lighter, but trans-black fits better for the unlit state and the lighting is more of a 3 seconds gimmick than anything else anyway. I didn't have room to directly build in a battery box this time, but the cable can easily be led from the bottom outside through the base and this way the choice of power source stays variable (I'm actually considering to change my other lit models from battery boxes to external cables, too).
Das ganze Modell war etwa 2 Monate in Arbeit, aber natürlich nicht kontinuierlich. Das initiale Design ging recht schnell in ein paar Tagen, wurde dann aber hier und da immer mal wieder überarbeitet und ich hatte auch andere Sachen, die ich zwischendurch noch gemacht habe (wie den Dresdner Zwinger in sehr sehr klein oder die RogueOlympics), und der März war ohnehin größtenteils nur auf Teilebestellungen warten. Das Modell hat etwa 2222 Teile (in der "offiziellen" Version exakt, meine selbst gebaute ist jedoch hier und da etwas abgewandelt). The whole model was in the works for about 2 months, but of course not continuously. The initial design was done rather quickly in a few days but got fine tuned now and then and I also had other things to do meanwhile (like a really tiny Dresden Zwinger and the RogueOlympics). March was largely waiting for BrickLink orders anyway. The model has about 2222 pieces (in the "official" version exactly, but mine is built a little differently here and there).
