Congratulations to the winners!!!!!!!! I can't believe that I actually made it on the top 10 this year, even if it is 10th place, especially with the half-time rankings! There were sooooo many great builds and builders this year!!! I'm already excited for next Rogue Olympics! Congratulations, once again!

Round 8 entry
Out of Focus
The idea of making a build around the camera's ability to focus was my first idea, but keeping the build within the 101 piece limit made it hard. In order to accomplish that I had to make a smaller camera, which in turn forced me to make the camera image a forced perspective in order to allow for a bit more detail to be had. This also allowed my to set the displayed image, "out of focus," by changing the depth of field in my rendering program.

This subject was a bit harder for me to come up with an idea, but after much deliberation I came up with the chaos that surely ensued after the massive eruption of Mount Vesuvius. I also wanted to go overboard a bit and just add multiple natural disasters, like a tornado and tsunami, focused around the town, but both the piece and time limit did not allow that.

Thank you! I was going to make it more busy, as bee swarms are very cluttered and busy, but the 101 piece limit forced me to make it a lot more simple. I do agree that the simplicity might have been for the better though!

Hive Mind
Bees are the poster child of the hive mind society, as all bees work towards the benefit of the colony and the queen bee. This means that they all, in sort, share a singular mind that determines what is best for the colony. A few examples of this are all of the bees actively controlling the temperature within the nest, collectively controlling the ventilation within the nest with their bodies depending on what is needed at the time, and swarming the queen bee to form a mass around her to… -

With May the 4th around the corner, I've been in a Star Wars mood, so I decided to build an iconic scene from the Original trilogy for this round of the Rogue Olympics with a theme of "Uplift". The scene depicts master yoda proving to Luke Skywalker that size does not matter in the ways of the force, by lifting Luke's crashed X-wing out of the swamps of Dagobah.
This build uses exactly 101 pieces, which was pretty difficult to do. In order to cut down on the piece count so that i could have a thicker forest background, yoda is missing and arm and his lego, and the x wing is missing a wing.

Entry 4 : Balancing Act
Balancing Act
Originally I had wanted to make this, but out of the 1x2 tiles with playing card prints, so it's like a pyramid of cards, however, being in college, I don't really have many bricks with me to test out things like this. I did have 1x2 plates though, so I went ahead and built it IRL just to see if it was even possible. It definitely took a bit of time, but it is possible!
I'm not entirely sure if it is possible with tiles, because of both a possible difference in friction and the beveled edge… -

This design is an accumulation of different sized volumes in order to create a design. The grouping of volumes creates a larger volume in which acts as one entity. This method of fusing cubes together is not uncommon in modern design, especially architecture or sculptural art.
