The topic was so broad again, that really everything goes. In cinema there's no lack of classic time travel films and tools either. But I somehow thought of one of my favourite directors, Christopher Nolan, whose films also often deal with the topic of time, some more directly than others. One of them is "Interstellar" and I built the scene from the finale of the film (for those who haven't seen it yet, be warned of spoilers, but maybe in that case the situation doesn't really tell you anything either :S). Inside the tesseract within the black hole Cooper communicates from 5-dimensional spacetime with his daughter Murph, through the bookshelf in her room, using the only force that transcends space and time: gravity (or is it love?). Desperately he tries to lay the Morse code for "STAY" with the books, in order to stop his past self from leaving his daughter, unbeknownst that he himself has already ignored this message over 100 years ago. It's the height of his desparation, before he realizes that he doesn't even have to perish with his daughter on a dieing world but can actually save her and humanity in its entirety.

I wanted to build something for "Interstellar" for quite a while, as I'm a huge fan of the film. I might have had more something like spaceships, planets or robots in my mind, but why not this scene either. It doesn't shine with all too elaborate building techniques, but it is a very significant moment in the film, condensed here through the part limit into its essence. I would have preferred to rather build the coding of the quantum data in the wrist watch as a more positive climax (which would also have added yet another "Time" aspect), but the 4 letters in Morse code lent themselves a lot better to a physical build. I also tried to hint a little at the rather absurd structure of the "4-dimensional bookshelf cube" that Cooper floats through with some image processing. But I didn't want to overdo it either, as it probably also becomes somewhat illegal at some point, when too directly duplicating pieces. I hope, though, to have achieved a rather subtle compromise. :saint: The parts for Coop's stand are included in the part limit, of course (the bar and the dish). I used both the old soft plastic books, which should only be a single piece, as well as a newer ABS book, which I counted as two parts to be on the safe side.

    101 Teile

And thus the Rogue Olympics end again. It has been tremendously fun again and it's actually a pity that there won't be a new topic on monday. But on the other hand there's already other project waiting for completion (one of them actually having less than 100 pieces, too, which I couldn't fit into any of the topics) and it's also nice to not have to disassamble everything immediately. :)

  • I wondered if anyone would build something from movies like Interstellar or Inception. Beautiful capturing of the scene here, and I think your amount of photo editing was just right : thumbup:

Thank you! I was thinking about Inception, too. I like that YouTube cut where they run all the different dream levels concurrently in parallel. But that would have cost too many parts. Tenet was also an option, but that really requires some kind of motion to get the idea across.
