Facing the Unknown

I really struggled with the topci this week (but I'm apparently not the only one). First I tried to build a small version of the 3-in-1 tiger and it came along not too badly. But then I miscounted rather severely even though I planned it digitally and kind of entirely lost the mood. Another idea was to build one of my primal fears, but I admittedly didn't have the courage for that. In the end I settled for a rather classic scene: venturing into the depths of an old and gloomy castle, probably loosely inspired by Ann Radcliffe's novel "The Mysteries of Udolpho".

The building techniques aren't the most original. I first had a more exciting arch (a Gothic one, of course) and a built door, but the part limit didn't really allow for that because everything had to have been bigger. But I wanted the scene to be somewhat atmospheric, so I lit the torches by LEDs and the room behind the door with a candle. The candle in Emily's hand wasn't that easy to light, though, so I just added a little glow to it in post-processing.

  • Gut gemacht mit die Lichten! Hast du ein bild von hinten?

Danke!

  • Great light effect, especially to have glow just visible through the crack between the doors.
Sets a great mood of mystery and danger

Thank you! Yes, that was the intention. In fact the door actually can only open exactly this far anyway until it collides with hinge/wall. ^^ What I'm really glad for is that the candle in her hand is, by pure accident, placed right in front of the bright reflection on the side of the gold ingot, which makes it look like it glows a little from within even without the additional post-processing.
